The GNL Quebec team is very pleased with today's announcement by the Bureau d’audiences publiques sur l’environnement (BAPE), which confirms the resumption of the environmental assessment process on the Énergie Saguenay project starting September 14..
Our team has been feverishly preparing for this crucial phase of the project, which was about to begin just before the COVID-19 pandemic forced the cancellation of the hearings, scheduled to begin on March 16 in Saguenay.
We are excited and ready to participate to this rigorous process, led by a credible and universally recognized environmental assessment institution. This is also good news for the Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean community and business community, which in unison, wanted the early resumption of BAPE hearings in an open letter published on May 13.
In terms hearings format, we trust the institutions in place to determine the best ways to ensure an effective and rigorous BAPE.
We will prepare to participate in the hearings in accordance with how the Commission chooses to proceed, taking account of the current social distancing practices.
These hearings will effectively address questions related to the construction of the world's most efficient natural gas liquefaction plant due to a wide variety of factors that make Saguenay a breeding ground for developing this new industrial and technological sector.
